1. What makes Wattronics Surge equipment different to other lightning and surge protectors on the market?
At Wattronics we take surge protection very seriously. We have developed units to safeguard your electronic equipment from all serious damage associated with electrical surges. The levels of protection include: surge and spike protection on three different levels, line conditioning, isolation protection and overload protection.

2. What is the most damaging effect to electronic equipment besides a lightning strike?
When electricity is restored after a power failure, voltage can surge to levels higher in voltage and longer in duration than any surge protection device can accommodate. This can destroy a computers power supply, motherboard, RAM, hard drives, CD-ROMs as well as any electrical office appliance. Not only is it expensive to replace these components, but also one is often confronted by the loss of invaluable data as well as downtime while the equipment is being repaired. The Computer Guard SP Sonic gives you 100% switch on protection.TOP

3. Is an uninterrupted power supply unit (UPS) a sufficient means of protection?
Definitely not, the basic design of a UPS is to convert AC power to charge the internal battery pack. The UPS converts the battery’s DC power back to AC power and then runs it to the AC outlets to power your electronic equipment. It is merely a backup device should you be on hand to save your data files. A UPS system only offers partial surge protection, and in so doing it will probably suffer severe damage itself in the case of a surge. Should you already have a UPS system in place then we would suggest you fit the Computer Guard SP Sonic for safety.TOP

4. How long will it take to receive my unit once I have made payment?
For customers within South Africa your units will be delivered within 1 week after payment has been concluded. Outside of South Africa, delivery may take up to 2 weeks.TOP

5. Will ESKOM or my local municipality bear responsibility for unexpected spikes or surges causing damage to my equipment?
Definitely not. Both of the above absolve themselves from all responsibilities. Infact they strenuously suggest that businesses and homes should protect themselves.TOP

6. Will the range of Wattronics Surge protectors protect my equipment from any surge that nature can dish out including direct lightning strikes?
Unfortunately, nothing can completely protect you against the vagaries of nature, as a direct lightning strike is impossible to defend. We do however guarantee you 100% switch-on protection in the case of the Surge King™.TOP

7. What precautions should I take when using the Surge King™ Computer Guard SP Sonic™?

(A load of 5 amps should not be exceeded in the case of the Computer Guard SP Sonic™ and 16 amps in the case of the Surge King™).TOP

8. How will I remember and know what to do to reactivate the Computer Guard SP Sonic after a power failure?
Wattronics has provided stickers in the Surge King™ and Computer Guard SP™ Sonic kit. These can be applied to your computer monitor or on any other electronic equipment to remind you of what action to take after a power failure has taken place. The Computer Guard SP Sonic has an audible signal, which will sound once power is restored. During this time, your computer is 100% protected from dangerous switch on surges, which frequently occur after a brown-out or electrical failure. Reactivation of the Surge King™ Computer Guard SP Sonic™ can now take place by a simple push of the activation button.TOP

The indicator lamp on the side of the Computer Guard SP Sonic will not glow after activating the unit IF there is no power supply or IF the fuse has blown. If there is power and the fuse has blown, this could indicate that the equipment connected to the unit is faulty or that the Computer Guard SP has sacrificed its components to protect your equipment from an electrical.TOP surge.
